Junk car pickup in downtown and Central Hammond
State Street, Hohman Avenue and the blocks around Harrison Park. Tell us if the car is at a home or a business.
Cash for Junk Cars Hammond picks up junk cars in downtown and Central Hammond, from the commercial blocks on State Street and Hohman Avenue to the houses around Harrison Park. Send the car’s details, hear the offer, and we tow it. There’s no towing fee, and payment comes at pickup.
Where Central Hammond is
Its neighborhood name is Central Hammond: the area between the Illinois state line and White Oak Avenue, north of 165th Street.
The old downtown sits inside it. The State Street and Hohman Avenue commercial historic districts are here, and so is the federal courthouse.
Then there’s Harrison Park, 25 acres at Waltham Street and Hohman Avenue, with a bandshell and tennis courts. If you live near the park, that’s a landmark a driver can find.
Downtown’s rail link has been moving. The old South Shore station on Hohman Avenue was replaced by Hammond Gateway, which opened on October 18, 2024, and a new downtown infill station at Russell Street broke ground on April 16, 2026.
Pickup notes for downtown
Downtown mixes homes, shops and parking lots, so tell us which one you’re dealing with.
- At a home? Street, driveway or garage, and the nearest cross street.
- At a shop or office? Give the business name as well as the address. Say whether the car is on the street, in a private lot or behind the building.
- In a lot you don’t own? Get the property owner’s okay before the truck comes, and tell us who that is.
- On a busy stretch of State or Hohman? Mention it. The driver may want a time when loading at the curb is easier.
What we buy downtown
Junk, wrecked and scrap cars, whether a household owns them or a business does. That includes cars that won’t start, cars with crash damage and cars that have been parked behind a building for longer than anyone remembers.
No title? We can still help. Indiana needs the title or a BMV certificate of authority for a junk car sale. The no-title page explains both routes and how to answer the title question in the form.
We don’t buy running used cars for resale.
How a downtown pickup goes
- Send the year, make, model and title status, then your name, phone and the address.
- We call back with an offer. Nothing is booked until you say yes.
- We book the tow. Same-day pickup is often possible.
- Sign the car over; payment is made at pickup.

Questions
- Do you pick up in downtown Hammond?
- Yes. We pick up junk cars across downtown and Central Hammond, at homes and at businesses. The tow costs you nothing, and payment happens when the car leaves.
- The car is behind a shop. What should I tell you?
- The business name, the street address, and where exactly the car is: street, private lot or behind the building. If you don't own the property, get permission for the tow first.
- Can a business sell a junk car?
- Yes, if the business owns the car and the person selling can sign for it. Tell us whose name is on the title or registration when we call.
