Questions Hammond sellers ask

Plain answers on titles, liens, towing and getting paid.

These are the questions that come up when you're selling a junk car in Hammond, Indiana, answered as plainly as we can. For the Indiana paperwork questions, the longer answers with sources are in our guides on junking a car without a title, replacing a lost title and selling with a lien.

Selling the car

What kinds of cars do you buy in Hammond?
Any vehicle in any condition: cars, trucks, vans and SUVs that won't start, carry crash, fire or flood damage, have been stripped, or have sat for months or years. We don't buy good running used cars for resale.
Does the car have to run?
No. We tow it from where it sits, running or not.
How is the offer worked out?
From what you tell us: year, make, model, condition and paperwork. We don't publish a price list, because two cars of the same model can be worth different amounts.
Are you a junkyard or scrap yard?
No. There's no yard to drive to. We buy junk cars and come to collect them.

Titles, liens and paperwork

Can I sell without a title?
Yes, and we can still help, but Indiana wants one of two documents for the sale: a $15 duplicate title from the BMV, or a $4 BMV certificate of authority that you apply for with proof such as your current registration. For a car under 15 model years old the law insists on one of them. Tell us which papers you have (bill of sale, registration, insurance card) and we'll say on the call which route fits.
I lost my Indiana title. What now?
If the car is in your name, the BMV issues a duplicate for $15 with an unexpired photo ID. You can apply online, at a branch, at a kiosk, at a partial service provider or by mail.
There's still a loan on the car. Can I sell it?
The lien has to be released first. Once the loan is paid, Indiana gives the lienholder ten business days to release a paper-title lien and deliver the title.
What do I do with the plates?
Take them off. Indiana law says the seller removes the plate and registration when a car is sold.

Pickup and payment

Is towing free?
Yes. The tow costs nothing, and your offer isn't reduced to pay for it.
When and how do I get paid?
At pickup, as the car is collected: an app transfer such as Zelle or Cash App, or cash, whichever you prefer.
Does my offer have a deadline?
No. An offer from us doesn't lapse, which matters if you still need a duplicate title or a certificate of authority before the sale.
When is the desk open?
From 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week, on Central Time.
Can you pick up several cars in one trip?
Yes. One visit can clear more than one car; tell us about each of them when we call.
Can you collect from a repair shop or an apartment lot?
Yes. A car stuck at a repair shop, or parked in an apartment or HOA lot, is fine to collect. Line up access with the shop or the property manager and tell us who to ask for.
How soon can you come?
Same-day pickup is often possible. You'll get a real time on the call.
Can you pick up from the street or an alley?
Yes. Tell us exactly where the car is: street, driveway, garage, alley slab or lot, and whether it rolls. If it's on someone else's property, get their okay first.
My Robertsdale address says Whiting. Is that a problem?
No. Robertsdale uses the Whiting post office, ZIP 46394. Add "Robertsdale, Hammond" or the ZIP to your pickup address so the tow goes to the right place.
