How selling a junk car in Hammond works
Four steps, one phone call, and a tow truck at the curb.
Selling a junk car in Hammond to us takes four steps: send the car's details, hear the offer on a call, book the tow, and get paid at pickup. Towing is free, same-day pickup is often possible, and the car doesn't need to run.
How do you sell a junk car in Hammond?
Send the car's year, make, model and title status through our form, with your name, phone and pickup address. We call back with an offer. If you accept, we book a free tow, often for the same day. The driver loads the car where it sits, you sign it over, and you're paid at pickup.
- Send the car. Year, make, model and whether you have the title. Then your name, phone and where the car is in Hammond.
- Hear the offer. We call you back with an offer for the car as it is. Nothing is booked until you say yes.
- Book the tow. Same-day pickup is often possible. Towing is free, from the street, a driveway, a garage or a lot.
- Get paid at pickup. Sign the car over, hand over any keys, and the payment is yours as the car leaves.
Before the call
Have the car's details and your paperwork in front of you. The more we know on the call, the fewer surprises later. Useful things to mention:
- whether it starts, and what happens if it doesn't;
- crash damage, missing parts, flat tires;
- what paperwork you have: title, bill of sale, registration or insurance card;
- any loan still on the car (read selling a car with a lien in Indiana first);
- where exactly it's parked, and whether it rolls.
On pickup day
- Empty the car. Glovebox, trunk, under the seats, the door pockets.
- Take off the plates. In Indiana the seller removes the plate and registration at the sale, and the registration expires at the transfer (IC 9-18.1-4-6).
- Have your ID and paperwork ready. You'll sign the car over.
- Hand over any keys. No keys? Tell us on the call.
- Get paid. Payment is made at pickup, as the truck takes the car, say on the call whether you want cash or an app transfer like Zelle or Cash App.
Once the truck has left
Keep a copy of whatever you signed. Indiana lets the previous owner send the registration and proof of the transfer to the BMV within 30 days so its records show the change, and a copy of the endorsed title counts as proof (IC 9-18.1-4-6). Then call your insurer about the policy on that car.
An offer from us has no expiry date, so if the title needs sorting first, step two can wait until it's done.
That's the whole process. Pickup notes for your part of town are on the Hammond neighborhood pages.
Questions
- Do I have to be home for the pickup?
- Plan to be. You sign the car over and hand over any keys, and you're paid at pickup.
- Does the car need to run?
- No. We buy cars that won't start and tow them from where they sit. Towing is free.
- What do I sign?
- If you have the title, you sign it over. If you don't, we go over the paperwork on the call first. Either way, bring a photo ID.
- What happens to my plates?
- Take them off before the truck arrives. Indiana law says the seller removes the plate and registration when a car is sold.
